“International Women’s Day” or “March 8th” marks the economic, political and social achievements of the female sex. The first International Women’s Day was marked on March 8, 1909 in the US Declaration adopted by the Socialist Party of America.
The idea for the celebration of “International Women’s Day” first appeared first at the beginning of the 20th century amid rapid world industrialization and economic expansion that led to do protests over working conditions. Women from clothing and textile publicly demonstrated on March 8, 1857 in New York. The garment workers were protesting the poor working conditions and low wages but were stopped by police.
In the western world, the “International Women’s Day” generally ceased to mark the 1930s, in part because in it is linked with communism. “Mother’s Day” is a feast to honour mothers and motherhood marked in those countries every second Sunday in May.
This day is a national holiday celebrated in Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Mongolia and Tajikistan and celebrated with flowers and gifts. However, feminists began celebrating it in the 1960’s and in 1975 it was declared “International Year of Women”.
Today, many world organizations mark “International Women’s Day and some of them are constantly trying to make it a national holiday in countries where it still isn’t the case.
